Winter 2025 Program

Winter Water Exploration

Join us for an exciting four part series exploring different water features in the wintertime. We will visit multiple locations in southern Litchfield and western Fairfield county that each have an exciting water feature. Along with guided exploration, we will measure water temperatures in various locations to compare and contrast, we will discover the history of ice harvesting in Connecticut, weather permitting; we hope to observe some ice formations in creeks and waterfalls, and we will learn about supercooling and frazil ice!

Goals & Benefits

There are many benefits of being outside during the winter months, including increased immunity, improved mood, reduced stress, and cultivating community during what can often be an isolating season.

The goal of these classes, aside from further developing a love of the great outdoors, especially in the colder months, is to help children build social emotional resiliency, social skills, group bonding, emotional regulation and self confidence through a mix of organized collaborative learning and unstructured exploration and play. These are far from a “sit and listen” type of class; families can feel free to participate in whatever way works best for them to get the most benefit of our time together. Caregivers should plan to learn and play alongside their child while experiencing all the benefits nature has to offer.
