Shepaug Bald Eagle Viewing Homeschool Field Trip
February 18th Southbury, CT -TRIP FULL
Description:
Casual eagle viewing with volunteers who have binoculars and telescopes and who know what to look for and where. Feel free to bring your own binoculars as well. It is not confirmed yet, but the venue is working hard to procure a Birds of Prey program for our group from one of the following wildlife rehab organizations; CT Audubon, Christine's Critters, Horizon Wings.
The Shepaug Hydroelectric Station is the largest hydroelectric station in Connecticut and provides a unique habitat for wildlife and is an important winter feeding site for Bald Eagles. The movement of water below the dam prevents ice from forming so there's always access to an abundance of fish upon which the eagles may feed.
In past years visitors have witnessed as many as 10 or more eagles in a single day, not to mention a variety of other birds including red-tail hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, goshawks, great blue herons, and various waterfowl. We saw an eagle every day we were open last year!
